“Rampaging Trump Mobs”
Before we delve into our main topic today, let’s get to some feedback per my question last week:
Do you believe Joe Biden will complete his term as president? How do you expect he’ll leave the White House?
“In response to your question,” Randy H. says, “I do not believe that Mr. Biden will finish his term. For all we know, he’s ‘finished’ his term already!”
Donna S. disagrees: “I believe Biden will quietly finish his term and leave without any hoopla.
“The administration will keep him under wraps. We will see VERY little of him as he quietly fades off into the sunset.
“All media attention needs to be focused on Kamala until the election is over,” she concludes.
Moving on, in my quest to find a relevant poll to look at today, I’ve come up empty.
I wanted to feature a poll from a notable senate race in Maryland — where Paradigm Press is headquartered — but the latest poll from Public Policy Polling is dated June 24.
- For what it’s worth, the senate race between Maryland’s former Republican Governor Larry Hogan versus former County Executive Angela Alsobrooks (Prince George’s County-D) shows Alsobrooks has an 8-point lead in a head-to-head race.
We’re staying put in the Old Line State today, because…
In a five-month old video that surfaced recently, U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-D) reveals an alarming disregard for democratic process and individual liberty.

January 6, 2025: “Civil War”
The venue for Congressman Raskin’s comments?
Politics and Prose — “D.C.’s premier independent bookstore and cultural hub” — in posh Chevy Chase, Maryland.
The occasion was a book signing for professor and legal scholar Richard L. Hasen’s new book, published in February this year, titled A REAL Right to Vote: How a Constitutional Amendment Can Safeguard American Democracy.
Raskin not only served as a panelist at the bookstore’s event, he also endorsed Hasen’s book. But it wasn’t Raskin’s boilerplate blurb on the book’s jacket that’s attracting attention now.
When asked about his expectations for the presidential election of 2024 — after he indicted the Supreme Court for failing to disqualify Trump under section 3 of the 14th Amendment — Raskin made the following breathtaking statement:
- It's going to be up to [Congress] on January 6, 2025 to tell the rampaging Trump mobs that he's disqualified
- And then we need bodyguards for everybody [for] civil war conditions
- All because the nine justices — not all of them — simply do not want to do their job.
Did Raskin openly declare his intention to subvert the will of voters by blocking a duly elected president from taking office?
While acknowledging that such actions would likely incite widespread civil unrest?
Yet he seems undeterred by the prospect of violence or even civil war — a term Raskin invokes twice during his time at the mic.
Cool…
At the very mention of “political violence,” in fact, we can only describe Raskin’s expression as smug.

My reaction to Raskin’s comments, however, align more with this Politics and Prose patron:

A picture really is worth a thousand words.
What’s your reaction to Congressman Raskin’s sentiments? Keep it civil, keep it thoughtful. And thanks for reading!
